Contour

807 1st Avenue
Seattle, WA 98104

(206) 447-7704

3-8pm M-F
2-8pm Sa and Su

score:

Contour was very busy towards the end of the happy hour this sunny Friday night, and almost everyone was enjoying the happy hour menu. The provolone cheeseburger is a hot favorite, as are the calamari strips, both from the $1.95 menu. Tuesday through Saturday they have a live dj, which makes for a very night club kind of atmosphere while the sun is still shining--very sinful. Driftwood Ale $2 and wells for $3.50 are standard happy hour, but they offer other drink specials that vary. Tonight’s was $7 Mojitos and yazikazis, which is martini made with ginger vodka. Contours happy hour lasts until 8 pm making it one of the longest happy hours in town. A large silhouette of clock is projected on the wall allows you to pace your happy hour intake and looks really cool.

score:

Daniel’s Broiler is one of Seattle’s busiest happy hours, this reviewer literally got the last seat available at the bar. On this cloudy Thursday afternoon there was still seating available on the deck. The deck has a great view of Lake Union. Daniel’s is known for it’s great food and offers cheap samples during happy hour. David, the bartender, is as sweet and fast as they come.

4 to 6pm and 10pm to 1am daily

score:

Dragonfish is one of the hottest Seattle happy hours, especially if you like sushi. On this holiday Monday, there was little space available. It is a great place to go before or after a show at the Paramount, as the theater is right across the street. I’ve been told that Dragonfish’s proximity to the Paramount also makes it a good placet to spot celebrities. They offer eight half sushi rolls for $1.95,(recommended Pike Place roll and Bossa Nova) twelve small plates for $2.95 (recommended Thai Dungeness Crab cakes) and five regular plates for $3.95 (recommended caramel ginger chicken).

Fado

4pm to 7pm Mon - Fri

score:

Fado (which means long ago in Irish) was packed on a Friday happy hour. I literally got the last spot at the bar. And it is a big place, divided into two rooms and a lounge in the back. Fado looks authentically Irish, with wooden dividers, frosted panes of glass and a lot of antiques. There is a large wooden structure that was shipped from Ireland that is a replica of type of old Gaelic gravestone. Not a very happy hour thought, but Fado is an Irish bar and the Irish celebrate all aspects of life.

Galway Arms

score:

Galway Arms has a happening happy hour, one of the best happy hours in Seattle. This reviewer snagged the last seat at the bar, which was nice as there was no cocktail waitress for the tables. But nobody seemed to mind, and the service was fast and friendly. The crowd was UW students and regulars who were hard core democrats. Galway Arms is an Irish bar, now offering Wi-Fi. The kitchen makes everything from scratch, right down to the tarter sauce and soda bread.

score:

McCormick and Schmick’s has such a good Seattle happy hour, this reviewer couldn’t get in on a Friday night, so went back on a Monday. But it isn’t about the drink prices, it is about really great food at a laughable price. The décor is nice mix of Irish bar and steakhouse. The prices and the downtown location attract singles and couples alike that wisely choose not to bother cooking when food this good and this cheap is available. With linen napkins to boot! Oh, these prices are only available in the bar and you have to spend at least $1.75 on a beverage. If you can’t live with that, you’re too grumpy for public and should just stay home.

Nara Grill’s looks are deceiving---on the outside, not so much--on the inside, lovely. Nara Grill has beautiful lighting and soft music playing. It is a great place for satisfying your sushi fix while watching the Mariners. On this cloudy Wednesday night Nara Grill had only a few regulars at the bar. Stephanie the bar manager, said she has a large group of regulars who always come in and wondered why it was unusually quiet, and just as the words came out of her mouth, eight people walked in. Mama Providencia, the matriarch of this family owned restaurant, comes from Sicily every year and re-dos the menu. But she doesn't touch the happy hour menu, because it is perfect! Seven for seven, means you have your choice of seven antipasto dishes whwen you buy a glass of wine or a signature cocktails. A great deal and a great meal, but not much of party atmosphere. This would be agreat place to bring family or a date, but not you Frat brothers. Oh, Pontevecchio is Italian for next to the old bridge.
