Bad Albert's

5100 Ballard Ave N.
Seattle, WA 98107

3pm to 6pm daily
All day Monday

score:

Nestled at the south end of Ballard Ave. lies Bad Albert's--not to be confused with the cartoon, Fat Albert. Open eleven years this month, Bad Albert's has become one of the Ballard's mainstays. While the rest of Ballard Ave. becomes more gentrified, Bad Albert's has been growing a fun, regular crowd by serving great food and drinks at decent prices. The employees can't say enough about how great their owner boss is, which is worth patronage for that reason alone. A great guy deserves a great crowd. This rainy, Wednesday there was space available both at tables and the bar.

Ballard Bar and Grill

Seattle, WA 98107

3pm to 6pm Monday thru Friday

score:

Located in lovely Frelard or Ballmont, whatever you would like to call that murky area between Ballard and Fremont. The Ballard Bar and Grill is a huge space with many games to play, pool, darts, video. Happy hour is offered from 3pm to 6pm, but that is the only information the bartender would divulge. She was too flustrated (my mother's word for being both flustered and frustrated) to talk about the specials.

Good ole Charlies, seems like it is been on Broadway since Broadway was Broadway. Once it was trendy with it's high wooden booths and stained glass, now it is just a fun place to hang and get drunk. score:

Collins Pub owner, Seth Howard, has turned an empty store front into an after work hot spot for people of all drinking ages. It is the kind of place where the suit and sweater crowd mix happily, a true Seattle Happy Hour. The Collins Pub has only been open 10 months, but come on down because they have a 20 year lease. Start with one of the 22 beers they have on tap, then after happy hour, switch to one of the 58 bottled beers they offer. No lack of choice here. No happy hour food specials offered.

Floyd’s is a it of sports place, thirteen televisions on all of them having something to do with ball. Floyd’s has a great draft beer selection. Twenty-nine in all, some being constant, others on specials. Unfortunately, draft beer is not on happy hour. Floyd’s gets very busy and does not offer happy hour before Key Arena events. But they do offer drink specials. On this Wednesday afternoon, the long bar offered many spots and the tables were empty. If you have to wait a minute for your beer, remember the Floyd’s motto, “Don’t be a pig, don’t have a cow.”

score:

Everyday FX McRory’s happy hour has a draft and speciality drink on special, and they have print outs of monthly menus of what those will be. McCory’s has 30 drafts and claims the world’s largest collection of bourbon, so anything is possible for happy hour. This rainy Friday night the crowd was sparse in the lounge. The only people at the bar were three very young and friendly young men with empty glasses, and hopefully cab rides in front of them. The bartender blamed the weather and lack of an event for the poor happy hour turn out. Which was perplexing as happy hour isn’t available at FX McCory’s during large events at Safeco and Qwest field. The low attendance could be due to Happy Hour being over at 6:00. Office workers are just getting started and it’s over-- kinda like my love life.

As the name and the graffiti in the restroom implies, this place is home away from home for Australian and New Zealanders. The air is thick with down under accents, but going against the stereotype, the Sheila next to me says she comes here because she doesn’t get bothered. Peso’s has the busiest and most popular happy hour on Queen Anne. This sunny Thursday night there was no room left at the bar, but some tables were available. Peso's offers over 24 items on their happy hour menu, some of the favorites being lamb taquitos and crab & avacado spring rolls. The decor of Peso’s is old world Mexican with many “Dia de Los Muertos” artifacts hanging from the walls. Music is supplied by a computer with 7,000 songs, with each bartender having their own playlist. Three TVs were broadcasting three different sporting events. The service was fast and friendly and happy hour is available in the restaurant, so it’s kid friendly. Their are 24 items on the happy hour menu, ranging from appetizers to soups and salads.
