Bad JuJu Lounge

Seattle, WA 98122

3pm to 8pm daily
score:
Bad JuJu Lounge moved back in the fall of 2005, but not far, couple blocks east, behind Neumos. They got rid of the kitchen and encourage food orders from the neighbor, Belguim Fries. Although the drinks are cheap, $2 wells, bottle beer and draft beers (That includes imports!), this is a quiet happy hour. You'll need to bring your own party, but hurry before it catches on.

Barca is dark and cavernous with a beautiful sky light if you get there soon enough to see daylight. Plenty of seating was available early this Friday afternoon. Barca has high bar tables, and beautiful luxurious booths. Barca's claim to Capital Hill happy hour fame is their specialty yummy cocktails for a reduced price during happy hour.

2 to 6pm and 11pm to last call
score:
Broadway Grill has a big happy hour area, plenty of room for everyone you know. Nikki, the bartender, was busy, but we never waited even a second for our drinks. And she was really great about making sure we got happy hour last call. This cloudy Thursday, the bar was full, but plenty of space was available at tables. Happy hour is available throughout the restaurant, bar area and sidewalk seating. What makes the Broadway Grill so fun is the large skylights and actually trees growing. Now, who doesn’t like to drink next to a tree?

Bus Stop is a new bar, only open three months. Previously a dry cleaner, then a vintage clothing store, much remodeling was done to make it in to the funnest bus stop in town. No food is served on happy hour special, but this place is more about the drinking. The bar only seats five and there are only eleven tables, but most of the spots were taken. the drinks at the Bus Stop are strong and cheap, which explains why everyone there was really happy and really friendly.

While the happy hour doesn't sound that great as far as price reduction (a bit) and food specials (none), but sacre bleu! Did I go to Capital Hill or Paris, France? This is the place to go when you miss Paris. Set up like an avenue in Paris, it has a cafe, bar, coffee stand and wine shoppe. And! A living room where board games are available. In between those areas a spacious cobblestone walkway to separate them all. Can't make it to Happy Hour? Hit the Wednesday night wine tasting-great new wilnes for a mere $7.50.

The Capitol Club is a place most people don't think of for a Seattle happy hour, but they have unique food specials and killer outdoor seating, a balcony that overlooks Pine St. So you can do a drive by and see if there is room for you and yours. If not, there is plenty of room in the bar. score:
Cha Cha is a Mexican lounge and it is dark and air-conditioned. A perfect place to beat the heat. Great Mexican artwork hangs on the wall and big cozy booths are in the corners. Don't be fooled by the smallness when you first enter, there is a whole other room in the back, for your large work crowd or all those friends you haven't seen in awhile. Being the happy hour goes until 8pm, the place gets pretty busy around 6pm. Early this Wednesday evening the crowd was sparse. Previously a chapel in a funeral home, The Chapel Bar is one of Capital Hill's newest haunts, opening Halloween of 2003. The bar is really high, which not only makes it hard to pass, but a challenge to get off and on the bar stools. Only martinis are offered for happy hour, but there is 16 to choose. Good ole Charlies, seems like it is been on Broadway since Broadway was Broadway. Once it was trendy with it's high wooden booths and stained glass, now it is just a fun place to hang and get drunk. score:
Ah, the DeLuxe -- been serving for over 40 years. My merchant marine great uncle Burdick drank here in the 60s and it was one of my favorite haunts in the 90s. The DeLuxe has expanded since them, but the charm has not been lost. On this Friday night the place was busy, but not packed. The service was good, but not near as fun was when my friend Patti Southard worked there. The clientele was a even mix of drinkers and eaters and drinkers. The appetizers are half off during happy hour and offers fairly standard fare with some wild cards thrown in, like Crab Rangoon egg rolls $3.50 and De Luxe sliders $3.15. And my personal favorite --potato skins with real bacon!

Honey Hole is a hole in the wall just west of Broadway. Although small, eight seat bar was partically full this nice Friday afternoon, most people in the restaurant were eating at the tables. Honey Hole is still better known for it’s good food rather than happy hour. Bottle beer was not on happy hour special, but was still just a mere $2.50. Free pool! Only during Happy Hour and only when the one table is available. Up until last year, the Kincora was an Irish pub, but have decided to give up that flair. The area around the pool table was full, but there was plenty of spots available in the booths and tables, where you can observe the street traffic of Capital Hill. Rumor has it that Kincora Pub will have a liquor license within a month. What happy hour specials will food and a hard liquor license bring? This reviewer can only guess.

Which may not mean much to you, but those who are lactose intolerant it makes all the difference. XO is owned by the same folks who own Maximilien's in the Market, and fine folks they are indeed.
