Chopstix Piano Bar

11 Roy Street
Seattle, WA 98109

(206) 270-4444

5-10pm Tues.; 5-7pm Wed- Fri.
Closed Sunday and Monday

score:

Chopstix is Seattle’s first Rock n’ Roll dueling piano bar and the show starts after happy hour, at 8:00 to 8:30 and that is when the place gets packed. The happy hour isn’t busy even on this stormy Friday night. David and Travis, the handsomest bartenders on Queen Anne, said that some people come for happy hour and stay to see the show.

Floyd’s Place

2 to 5 M-F
(although rumor has it they sometimes run happy hour on the weekends)

score:

Floyd’s is a it of sports place, thirteen televisions on all of them having something to do with ball. Floyd’s has a great draft beer selection. Twenty-nine in all, some being constant, others on specials. Unfortunately, draft beer is not on happy hour. Floyd’s gets very busy and does not offer happy hour before Key Arena events. But they do offer drink specials. On this Wednesday afternoon, the long bar offered many spots and the tables were empty. If you have to wait a minute for your beer, remember the Floyd’s motto, “Don’t be a pig, don’t have a cow.”

score:

Jabu’s is a fun little place divided into two drinking areas. A small u-shaped bar at the front door for intimate conversation and a larger area for pool playing and big screen TV watching with comfy couches. Between the two spots, seats are always available. This reviewer’s favorite part about Jabu’s is Monday Night Bingo. Soon one of those mini disco balls will be mine! And remember, at Jabu’s smiles are always free.

Mirabeau Room

529 Queen Anne Ave. N.
Seattle, WA

2062172800

5 to 7:30pm daily

score:

Once the home of Sorry Charlie’s, the Mirabeau room has saved the best part of the old Queen Anne haunt--Howard Bulson. Howard still plays his piano at the same spot he always did, for happy hour Monday thru Wednesday. On Thursdays and Fridays they have iPod happy hour, where patrons can bring in their iPods or laptops and play their own 15 minute play list. The Mirabeau Room is actually two rooms, one with a bar to belly up, and a long benched wall with tables. The other side has tall wooden bar tables and very cool red vinyl booths. This is where Howard plays and where the DJ or live music is later in the evening. With plenty of room available, the Mirabeau Room would be a great spot to meet up before a Key Arena event. All appetizers are half price during happy hour. Happy hour of the month winner December 2005.

Mojito Cafe

Seattle, WA 98119

(206) 217-1180

4 to 6 pm Tu. - Fri.

score:

Mojito Cafe has only been open for five months, but already draws a good crowd for dinner and live music, but the happy hour was sparse this Wednesday night. For those of you living on Mars, the Mojito is a Latino drink that is a mixture of sugar water, fresh lime and mint, rum and elbow grease. And while the water view is limited, the atmosphere is festive and surrounded by windows. Even though there is no outdoor seating, it would be great on a summer evening. The appetizers are not only free, they are totally different fare than you would fine from most places. You’ll have to go there to check them out and figure out for yourself what they are about: Tosones, Yuca Frita con Mojito, Maduros and Tortilla Espanola. Non-smoking.

score:

Moxie is the new swank and trendy restaurant on Lower Queen Anne, and it's hard to be swank when the view across the street is a rotating pig and cow. But Moxie pulls it off, serving it's "Food with Nerve" it would be the place to bring out of town family and friends as the Happy Hour specials are diffently "out of the box", But hurry, this is an early happy hour.

Ozzie's bar was full at 5:30 this Friday evening, in fact this reviewer got the last bar stool. The service was good and the potato skins come with real bacon (always impressive). score:

Peso’s has the busiest and most popular happy hour on Queen Anne. This sunny Thursday night there was no room left at the bar, but some tables were available. Peso's offers over 24 items on their happy hour menu, some of the favorites being lamb taquitos and crab & avacado spring rolls. The decor of Peso’s is old world Mexican with many “Dia de Los Muertos” artifacts hanging from the walls. Music is supplied by a computer with 7,000 songs, with each bartender having their own playlist. Three TVs were broadcasting three different sporting events. The service was fast and friendly and happy hour is available in the restaurant, so it’s kid friendly. Their are 24 items on the happy hour menu, ranging from appetizers to soups and salads. And if you ask for the expanded menu you will find hot sandwiches for $5 to $6. No drink specials are offered and there is a $3 beverage minimum. Chips and Salsa, are $2 during happy hour, and free during the regular lunch and dinner hours. Note: Happy hour goes to 5pm on Key Arena event nights.

Ponti's is nestled on the Queen Anne side of the Fremont Cut, right next to the Fremont bridge. Ponti is Italian for bridge, betcha didn't know that. 3-5:30pm M-F

score:

On this stormy Friday, late in to the happy hour, the bar was full at Sport, but there was plenty of room at the tables. Sport happy hour is still in the processed of being defined and offered so early in the day to accommodate employees of Fischer Plaza. Currently the specials are only available in the bar and the outdoor patio, which has a great view of the Space Needle. Sport offers five TVs for sport viewing and gets downright crazy before events at the Key, although happy hour isn’t offered when there is a sporting event at the Seattle Center. score:

This blustery Friday night there were a lot of people sitting in The Sitting Room. Mostly at tables, which is unusual for happy hour and a testament to the coziness The Sitting Room breeds. A perfect place to impress a blind date with your knowledge of wines and Mediterranean foods. Don’t worry, the bartender will back you up. The Sitting Room serves everyone a glass of water, which is a very good idea.
